H.E. Ambassador Tsegab Kebebew addressed the plenary during the 65th Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), which commenced on July 9 and will continue until July 17 2024 in Geneva.

In his statement, Ambassador Tsegab highlighted Ethiopia’s efforts and initiatives in the realm of intellectual property (IP). Accordingly, he informed that the country’s Ten year Perspective Development Plan prioritizes technology and innovation and identifies IP as one of its key policies.

He stated that Ethiopia has designed an IP Strategy which emphasizes the pivotal role of IP in fostering economic development, underscoring the importance of protecting and promoting innovation and creativity to stimulate economic growth and development.

Ambassador Tsegab further expressed Ethiopia’s keen interest in strengthening its collaboration with WIPO to ensure innovations and creative works are adequately protected in the country.

On the sidelines of the Assembly, H.E. Ambassador Tsegab also participated in the BRICS Member States coordination meeting. Member States discussed priorities in the IP sector and explored further collaboration in the future to adress common challenges
