  1. Founding Member of the Organization of African Unity (OAU): Ethiopia played a crucial role in the establishment of the OAU in 1963. Despite domestic challenges, Ethiopian governments consistently supported African countries’ struggle for independence and gained respect among African nations.
  2. Seat of the African Union (AU): Ethiopia is the headquarters of the AU, the successor organization to the OAU. As such, it carries a special responsibility for the AU’s vision of an integrated, prosperous, and peaceful Africa. Ethiopia actively works toward achieving this vision and addresses long-standing African issues.
  3. Host for International Conferences & Events: Ethiopia is a founding member of various international organizations that shape inter-state relations and oversee adherence to international rules. These organizations provide forums for Ethiopia to engage with other countries and contribute to global cooperation.
  4. Diplomatic Missions in Addis Ababa: Currently, 134 countrieshave their diplomatic missions in Addis Ababa, further solidifying its status as a diplomatic hub.
