Ethiopia and Hungary have maintained official diplomatic relations for over 60 years. Hungary reopened its embassy in Addis Ababa in 2016. Currently, the Ethiopian Federal Democratic Republic’s Mission/embassy in Geneva is accredited to Hungary.
The two countries have collaborated in areas such as education, training, capacity building, research exchange, and various development partnerships. Each year, 50 Ethiopian students receive scholarships based on bilateral educational cooperation agreements signed with the Hungarian Ministry responsible for education.
In 2023, the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, H.E. Péter Szijjártó, visited Ethiopia. Both countries are working to strengthen and continue their cooperation in the fields of education and trade.
