A high-level event on “Sustainability in the Coffee Value Chain: From Awareness to Action,” organized by the International Trade Centre (ITC), was held today on 19 June 2024 at the centre’s premises in Geneva.

In his opening remarks, H.E. Ambassador Tsegab Kebebew highlighted the critical role of coffee in Ethiopia’s economy and culture.

He emphasized the need for fair gains across the supply chain and reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to sustainability. He also stressed the importance of sustainable practices to overcome technical and logistical challenges and comply with new European deforestation and due diligence regulations.

Ambassador Tsegab expressed gratitude to partners for their support in promoting a sustainable coffee value chain.

The event featured two-panel discussions focused on the coffee value chain, opportunities for coffee value addition, and the circular economy. One of the discussions included insights from the Ethiopian experience, presented by the President of the Ethiopian Women in Coffee Association. Additionally, a coffee-tasting ceremony showcased Ethiopian coffee which is appreciated by participants for its rich flavour.

The Amharic translation of the fourth edition of the comprehensive, practical source for the international coffee trade, “The Coffee Guide” was also unveiled in the presence of collaborators at the event.
